There is no mouse designed for disabled people who have lost their hands, so it hard for them to use the computers.

Feety is a new kind of mouse which can be controlled by foot easily. With the help of Feety, disable people can operate computer easily.

My role

I mainly contributed in product structure design. I raised several key solution which made this product came true. I was also responsible for rendering models and adjusting printed model.

Explore new ways of human-computer interaction !

​Design purpose

There are various kinds of mouses designed for the hands and very few mouse designs for the foot. However, many people lose their hands because of accidents or illnesses, so they cannot control the computer like normal people. 


We figure out that people who lose their hands finish many tasks with their feet, such as painting, writing and playing music.

So we tried to design a mouse that operates by feet for upper limb disabled people.


In this process, we encountered two questions.

Question1: How the mouse measure the displacement?

In the traditional hand-held optical mouse, the distance measuring component is at the bottom of the mouse, and measure the relative displacement of the mouse and the desktop.

However, foot have difficulty in griping things, so it can’t grab mouse like hand. Our solution is to place the infrared sensor on the top of the mouse and measure the relative displacement between the foot and the mouse itself.


Question2: How to control the direction click the left and right button by feet?

In order to find the best solution, we proposed lots of plans in discussion and finally choice three options in comparison.


We made three  mud prototypes in order to figure out which concept feel best.


Which part of the foot is most suitable for controlling the mouse? We invited 8 people participated in this evaluation.

As we know, the smaller the force required for control, the better; the larger the movable area, the better; the smaller the pressing point, the better. So we ended up the conclusion that using the forefoot to control the mouse movement, and the heel to click the left and right buttons is the most energy-saving way to control the mouse.

Finally, we choice the concept 3.

3-D scanning

In order to obtained the human foot model, we used the three-dimensional scanning. In order to make user feel more comfortable, we curved surface of the mouse to make it more suitable for the sole of the foot.

After constructed the 3D moduel in SOLIDWORKS,we used 3D printer to print module.
